We at Yarn Marketplace are proud to launch a new design from Kirrae and Peek Whurrong  artist Merindah-Gunya (Bayley Mifsud), and to introduce Children’s Ground, who we are proudly supporting through the sales of Bayley’s work.

Bayley’s ‘Reconciled Nation’ is a powerful, positive and daring message to believe in and work towards a future where reconciliation is not only possible but a reality.

The grassroots organisation Children’s Ground champions this message with their self-determined approach to learning, health and employment that centres First Nations knowledge and is designed, delivered and evaluated by the community.

“I painted this piece because I wanted something that I could look at everyday, that was not only positive but inspirational.”

I believe that individuals all have a role to play within reconciliation. I think whether that be in their personal life, work life, sporting life, no matter what it is.

Whether that be to further educate themselves, to stand up for what is right, to stand up to racism, to further engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, creators. Everybody in every kind of way has a role to play.

And it is up to the 97% of our population to achieve genuine reconciliation. And individuals can further support collaboration, such as what I am doing with Yarn currently, and purchasing products that give back to community artists.

For the launch of the line we are proud to raise funds for Children's Ground, a First Nations-led and owned organisation whose mission is to create a new future for the next generation of children.

A future where First Nations people across Australia have self-determination and enjoy social, cultural, political and economic justice. Where the next generation of children know and celebrate their culture and identity, have freedom of choice and expression and can live with opportunity, peace, harmony and wellbeing. And where all Australians recognise our shared history and celebrate First Nations culture and strength.

NRW is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. - Reconciliation Australia It is a week to reflect on our shared history and to educate ourselves on how we can contribute to a brighter future.

This year’s theme Now More Than Ever, is a reminder to all of us that no matter what, the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will —and must —continue.

NRW is observed 27 May - 3 June across several key dates in the long fight for First Nations rights. You can read more about these key dates in our educational blog series
