As many of you may have already seen, the 2022 NAIDOC Week theme has been announced! The theme "Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!" is a call for action to bring about “systemic change and keep rallying around our mob, our Elders, our communities.”

In the press release for the 2022 NAIDOC Week theme, the National NAIDOC Committee (NNC) explained how this year’s theme reflects and acknowledges the hidden history of this country and the significant acts and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the fight for their rights:

“From the frontier wars and our earliest resistance fighters to our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities fighting for change today—we continue to show up.
Now is our time. We cannot afford to lose momentum for change.”

The NCC (2022) stated how this year’s NAIDOC Week theme can be translated into action:

“Whether it’s seeking proper environmental, cultural and heritage protections, Constitutional change, a comprehensive process of truth-telling, working towards treaties, or calling out racism—we must do it together…
It’s also time to celebrate the many who have driven and led change in our communities over generations—they have been the heroes and champions of change, of equal rights and even basic human rights.”
The theme is about the desire to change the relationship between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non‑Indigenous Australians to one that is “based on justice, equity, and the proper recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ rights.”

At Yarn, we celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture through collaborations with our partner artists, whose works speak of strong and unique connections to culture, tradition, heritage and community. We are very excited to start putting together our 2022 NAIDOC collection. Stay tuned for some gorgeous designs and special stories.

So, let’s "Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!" and amplify our voices to bring about this much needed change, and come together as one nation.
