Mother's Day Activities Around Brisbane

Mother’s Day is almost here, and it’s the perfect time to spoil your mum with your time, and of course, something special. Here’s a fun fact about the origins of Mother’s Day:

“The tradition actually comes from America where Anna Jarvis had organised a health and friendship women’s group that originated on what we now know as Mother’s Day. In 1907, Jarvis held a memorial service for her late mum in a West Virginia church. It was five years after this that every state in the USA was observing the day. By 1914, US President Woodrow Wilson made it a national holiday.” - 7 News.com.au, 2021.

While the COVID-19 pandemic is still making it tricky for some families to spend time together, there are still plenty of ways to make Mother’s Day special. If you’re living in another state to your mum currently and can’t travel home for a visit, there are still fun ways to stay virtually connected and create a special quarantine Mother’s Day. Whether you treat her to a massage or take an online dance or cooking class together, you’ll make memories that she’ll be talking about for years to come. For those who aren’t having to stay indoors this year, you can find a bunch of activities in and around Brisbane, from picnics in the park to Sunday markets to fun runs for breast cancer research.

Mother’s Day Classic - Fun run for Breast Cancer Research

The Women in Super Mother’s Day Classic is one of Australia’s most inspirational, cause-driven community events. Annually, thousands of Australians gather together on Mother’s Day to get active for breast cancer research. The foundation’s aim is to create a fun and engaging event experience to celebrate and remember the women who have been affected by breast cancer, and to raise life-saving funds for significant research. Every year, a sea of pink shirts flood Brisbane’s riverside as families start the morning with the fun-run for breast cancer research. There is a course for every fitness ability - you can choose from a 5km run or walk or a 10km run or walk. After finishing, you can enjoy all the delights that Roma Street Parklands has to offer. The Mother’s Day Classic event will have a food zone and kids zone with several activities for both kids and adults to enjoy. These fun activities will involve face painting, fairy floss and popcorn stalls, bowling, inflatable games and card decorating for your mum.
