STORY - The Space Between

The Space Between

The Space Between is a sacred tribute to reconciliation and all that lives in the quiet moments between conflict and connection - peace and pain. A story of healing and coming together.

The flowing lines mirror rivers, pathways, and energy lines - symbolising the long, often painful journeys walked by both First Nations and non-Indigenous people. They bend and weave, never in a straight line, just like healing itself. These currents carry truths, memories, and the echoes of voices finally being heard.

The large central circles represent sacred meeting places - spaces where stories are shared, hearts are opened, and generations gather. Surrounded U-shapes sit in unity not hierarchy - symbolising community, yarning circles, truth-telling, and respectful exchange.

The dot work ripples outward from each centre, like the impact of one act of courage or listening, reaching far beyond what we can see. They carry the spirits of those who came before - elders, ancestors, and trailblazers and the promise of those yet to come.
The cool, healing blues and oceanic greens speak to deep emotional waters - of grief, of growth, of gentleness. These are the colours of clarity and calm, of wounds being gently washed clean by time, conversation, and compassion.

This painting holds a pause in time - a sacred stillness. It is the breath before understanding, the space between two hearts learning to beat together again. A gentle reminder that reconciliation doesn't rush. It lives in the space between.
