STORY - Standing Strong

Standing Strong

Each year our marches and protests grow, our stance strengthens and the vision we have for our communities opens up new pathways. As we move through time, it’s our responsibility to show our young ones how, when and where to show up for community. We instil these values young, making sure our children know who they are and where they come from. Removing the demand of racial stereotypes that surround us still in today’s society through systemic oppression and racial vilification through the media; We must place our children in environments where they get to see themselves reflected positively, giving them the tools they need to grow up as strong, proud blak kids. For me, these moments in my childhood were always the marches.

This artwork is a reflection of current time for me, at the March with my son on my shoulder as we march the streets of Naarm. It speaks to my role as a parent, and the cultural responsibility I have of guiding my son.
