STORY - Ross and Puruntatameri

The community of Ampilatwatja made a conscious decision not to paint altyerr dreaming stories. The artists paint their country where those stories sit. This detailed work shows the layered landscape of Alyawarr, Central Australia. Rosie as painted, “tarrkarr”, trees which you get ‘sugar-bag’ from. ‘Sugar-bag’ is a sweet honey made by native bees that live in these trees.
Artist: Nina Puruntatameri
Nina Puruntatameri was taught to paint by her father, Romuald Puruntatameri. After school she work with him, painting his spears. In 1993 Nina won the Award for New Medium at the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards in Darwin, providing recognition for her exceptional skills in etching.Her father, Romuald is represented in the Museum and Art Gallery of Northern Territory.
