STORY - Puyurru Water Dreaming

The site depicted in this painting is Puyurru. It tells the story of 'Ngapa Jukurrpa' (Water Dreaming). It was at the naturally occuring well of Puyurru that two Jangala men - rainmakers - sang the rain, unleashing a giant storm that travelled across the country. The Water Dreaming built hills at Ngamangama with baby clouds, and rock formtions by sticking long pointy clouds into the ground at Jukajuk. At Jukajuk, these rock and hill formations can still be seen.
