Knowledge of Country

The knowledge our amazing land holds will forever remain faded yet cemented, faint yet glowing in our country, in our culture, in our people.

This painting depicts the sharing of culture and country, the different painting techniques and patterns conveys knowledge and experience passed down through the generations of indigenous and Torres Strait people. Our people learning and growing from our ancestors and our land.

The circle in the centre represents all of Australia with the symbols around it being all Australian still learning from our own country, the yellow semicircles at the top and bottom of the painting is the sun setting and rising with each passing day.

The swirling black and white patterns show the elegant presence of our ancestors, the ones that have walked this land long before us.

The dotting pattern represents the land and it’s astonishing beauty, the crosshatching pattern on the sides of the canvas demonstrates the passage of time, it’s layers on top of each other ever expanding with each second.

Finally the yellow paths from each corner of the canvas connecting all of the raw symbolism into a stunning piece of culture.
