Illuminence

Illuminence captures the essence of silver princess gumnuts, revered for their ability to illuminate one’s path in life, acting as an eternal compass. No matter how far we wander, we carry the wisdom of our ancestors within us, always finding our way back home. Surrounding the gum nuts are symbols of community, emphasizing the enduring connection I share with my community and Country, intricately woven into my own path. This artwork reflects my mob’s deep-rooted bond with the Country and our ancestors, honouring the theme of this year’s NAIDOC: "Keep the Fire Burning." Just as the flame endures, so too does our connection to Country and the paths we walk—an everlasting light guiding us forward.

Spring Essence

Spring Essence captures the vibrant renewal of nature with soft pink and purple proteas, silver princess gum nuts, complemented by the warm touch of orange bush tucker representing the colours of the dirt that bring life to the newborn florals. Unfinished watercolour florals evoke the promise of spring’s arrival, depicting growth still unfolding. Embedded in this Australian botanical painting are symbols representing community to the Indigenous people of Australia. At the centre of these symbols are the colours in the proteas symbolising that the Indigenous people are in sync with natures cycle of renewal and their deep connection with nature.
