Proud Bundjalung woman Kyas Hepworth has been appointed as the Head of Screen NSW, making her the first Indigenous woman to lead the organisation. She will start at Screen NSW in July 2022 after finishing up her role as Head of Commissioning and Programming at NITV. Hepworth expressed her excitement about taking on this new role to the Canberra Times (2022):

"I am incredibly excited to start my new role with Screen NSW to continue the incredible work of the many who have come before me, cementing NSW as a global leader for screen creatives and production."

Kyas Hepworth has extensive experience in bringing diverse stories to the screen, including working on feature films, documentaries, television series and shorts. During her time at NITV, she has driven the direction of the First Nation channel's distinctive offerings. Hepworth has been responsible for the development of the Indigenous production sector through shows such as the award-winning children’s animation Little J & Big Cuz, The Beach and NITV’s first drama series True Colours, coming later in 2022 (SBS Corporate, 2022).

It is wonderful to see further Indigenous representation within the leading ranks of Australian media. Through her role, Kyas Hepworth will have the opportunity to champion inclusive storytelling, and provide more space for Indigenous voices and productions. A huge congratulations to Kyas Hepworth!
