This painting represents the Banksia flower, which is culturally important to many Aboriginal people. The rich nectar is released from the flowers by soaking them in water to make a sweet drink. Large honeyeater birds attracted by the nectar are also hunted and trapped for food. The dry seed cones still attached to its branch were also used to ‘carry’ fire in the practice of fire-stick farming.
